Russian and Soviet Photographs

Excellent site devoted the work of the photographer of the Czar in the turn of the century, who took these photos between 1907-1915.  Photos are re-mastered into color and are quite astonishing--like going back in time.  Subjects range from peasants to views of towns, such as the view of Suzdal from the Kamenka River.

Black-and-white photos of some interesting architectual sites, such as The Cathedral of the Nativity, in Suzdal.  Images enlarge, and are pretty good quality.

This site presents the photographs of many photographers between the late 19th century and the present, and with photos from as far back as 1891 you must check it out!  From images of peasants to 19th century machinery and factories, this site is a fantastic way to see how people lived and worked in Russia over 100 years ago!  The older photos are in black-and-white, but the quality is very good through re-mastery of images.

A virtual tour of sorts of Russia, this site offers numerous links to sites as diverse as the Moscow subway to the countryside.  Photo quality varies greatly depending upon where you click, but all pages are quite interesting!

If you are interested in the churches and cathedral of St. Petersburg, this is the site for you!  Images do not enlarge, but offer a variety of angles for various sites and quality is quite good.
