Description
Housing approximately 60 multimedia workstations and 14 video viewing stations, the Fletcher Jones Language Commons is the heart of the Language Center. Served by two high performance PC and Macintosh file servers, the Language Commons facilitates the integration of cutting edge computer technology and learning methodologies at USC.

In roughly equal configurations of Apple Power Macintosh G5s and Dell Pentium 4 3.2 Ghz PCs, the Language Commons offer language learners quality interactive multimedia created here at USC and commercially with fast ethernet (100 base t) connections that allow for high-speed web searching. Each workstation has stereo sound input and output. All Power Macintosh G5s feature CDR/DVD-ROM drives for full motion digital video and audio. PC's feature CD-RW/DVD-ROM drives. 17", flat screen LCD monitors and large work surfaces facilitate group work as well as individual work.

Although the Language Commons is open to the entire USC community, language students enrolled in courses that fulfill the language requirement have priority use of the facilities without any time restrictions.
