USC Archaeology's Outreach to Local Schools

A Partnership between the USC Archaeology Research Center and the LAUSD Art and Artifact Collection thanks to the generous support of USC Neighborhood Outreach, USC International Museum Institute, USC Joint Educational Project, and the Archaeological Institute of America.

ARCSmart is a standards-based curriculum enrichment program which provides students with hands-on access to ancient artifacts and exercises and reinforces their problem-solving skills and knowledge of ancient civilizations.

USC undergraduate students enter the elementary classroom with artifacts and teach students about their love of the past. Hands-on lessons feature real ancient artifacts from Greece, Rome, Egypt, Mesopotamia from LAUSD's Antiquities Collection.

For more information about the particular lesson plans and how these sessions address the Content Standards for California Public Schools, please see the 2010 ArcSmart Program. For an outline of scheduling and working with students, please see the Antiquities Guided Handling session presentation.
