Praise from Robert Pinsky

The USC writing program, because of its distinguished faculty, their careful planning and devoted work, is of the first quality. It is not easy to find writers with national reputations who are willing and able to provide first-rate teaching. Someone has assembled that kind of staff, which is a great asset for USC.

Many American students elect to take courses and degrees in this area. The quality and level of literary instruction vary. Some achieve the goals of liberal education; some are little more than baby-sitting. The program at USC is in the best category.

It is essential that programs of literary and intellectual distinction meet the student interest in creative writing courses with the serious study of literature and literary models. Programs like this one fulfill that responsibility, and make a great contribution to the study and vitality of literature.

Sincerely,

Robert Pinsky
