School of International Relations

celebrated its 80th anniversary

Established in 1924, USC's School of IR is the 3rd oldest professional school of international relations in the world and has the largest IR undergraduate program in the US.

In February 2005, a keynote dinner address launched a special study of Challenges to World Order, the first IRUA - International Relations Undergraduate Association - research conference.

Steven Lamy, Director of the School of International Relations, with teachers in the CALIS program:
Mike and Monica Berger, Rick Edwards, John Brierley, Steve Lamy, Tamara Hoffman, Susan McLeary

Steve Smith, Vice Chancellor of the University of Exeter, was the keynote speaker at this very special event celebrating 80 years of excellence and innovation in the research and teaching of international relations. Professor Smith's address opened the First Annual Undergraduate Research Conference: Challenges to World Order. He outlined an insightful and provocative set of issues, challenging assumptions about international order and security, the role of identity and inequality, the true might of military power, the waning primacy of the state, and sovereignty as a force working against human interest.
It was a great evening for faculty, students, staff, and teachers!

CALIS teachers have an open invitation to special lectures with the School of IR
High school students are often included!

CALIS is an outreach project of the School of International Relations (SIR) at the University of Southern California
