Keeping Informed While Abroad
It
is your responsibility to stay informed about developments
in the country/countries in which you are studying (including
countries you'll visit that are not part of your study
abroad program's itinerary). You should check the U.S.
State Department's web page for the most current
information while you are abroad. On that page you will
find three different types of information: Consular
Information Sheets, Public Announcements, and Travel
Warnings. This information is updated based on current
events worldwide.

Health
insurance information
· If
you have a medical emergency overseas, or even if
you just have a medical question
or need
some advice, call the number on your INTERNATIONAL
SOS card, which you received at the General Orientation
on campus. You should never feel unable to get medical
care or help overseas. Call International SOS collect
and they will help you. You should carry your International
SOS card with you at all times. Please ask us to send
you a replacement card if you lose yours at any time.
·
If you need to see a doctor for a routine visit or
for a non-emergency (a cold or ‘flu for example),
most of the time you will need to pay the provider
at the time of service, and then file a medical claim
with your USC insurance. Your USC Overseas Insurance
Policy has a $150 deductible, but usually you will
have to pay for service and then file a claim form
to receive
reimbursement for expenses incurred. You can download
a USC
claims form here. Please keep copies of all of
your receipts and bring them back to USC when you return
in case there is ever any question about insurance
coverage and reimbursement.
· You
can find a full plan description online at: http://www.usc.edu/student-affairs/Health_Center/insurance/i.plandescription.html
