Semester or Year in Cortona with the University of Georgia

(for Fine Arts students only)

Open only to Fine Arts students, the Cortona program offers the opportunity to immerse oneself in both Italian culture and artistic study. Nestled in the Eastern region of Tuscany and only an hour from Florence, Cortona hails itself as a "City of Art". Here, students study in the historical company of the great pre-Michelangelo painter Luca Signorelli and the early 17th Century painter and architect, Pietro da Cortona. One of the twelve cities that formed the Etruscan confederation, and most recently drawn attention to by Frances Mayes' novel and subsequent film, Under the Tuscan Sun, Cortona has long been a vibrant and well-preserved gem of Tuscan life. The small city hosts a wealth of artistic treasures from the Museo Diocesano to its many churches and examples of Renaissance architecture and painting. In Cortona, one of the best preserved areas of Tuscany, students can focus on their academic exploration of the arts.

Through the University of Georgia's Lamar Dodd School of Fine Arts, USC students can study in Cortona for a semester or an academic year. The program offers a wide range of studio courses from the Introductory to the Advanced levels. Most courses count for credit toward the USC Fine Arts major. The program also offers courses in creative writing and the Italian language, etc. which can count towards elective credit.
