School of Religion Welcomes New Professor David Albertson

The School of Religion is pleased to welcome David Albertson as an Assistant Professor to its faculty. David joins us from the University of Chicago. He received his B.A. from Stanford and his M.Div. from Chicago. His dissertation studies how mathematical influences from the twelfth century influenced the theological writings of the fifteenth-century German mystic, Nicolaus Cusanus. David’s research focuses on medieval Christian mysticism, but he is also interested in problems in modern Christian thought, the history of Christian Platonism, and the relationship of religion and science during the transition to modernity. David has recently returned from Germany, where he had a Fulbright fellowship at the University of Cologne. He is currently co- editing a volume of essays on contemporary ideas of nature in religious ethics. This Fall he will be teaching REL 364, Judeo-Christian Ethics, as well as ARLT 100, Love and Desire in Medieval Mysticism.
