Professors Campany and McHugh Receive ASHSS Funding

Religion professors, Robert Campany and James McHugh, have been awarded funds from the Provost’s Advancing Scholarship in the Humanities and Social Sciences. The Advancing Scholarship in the Humanities and Social Sciences (ASHSS) promotes the development of high quality and influential scholarly publications and products in the social sciences, arts, and humanities. Campany’s proposal includes summer research to finish his book, Visions in Early Medieval China. This book will be a thematically organized study of the religious meaning and uses of dreams, waking visions, and visualization practices across multiple religious traditions and communities in China ca. 100 – 600 C.E. McHugh will begin a book on the topic of Medieval Indian culture’s obsession with smells and perfumes.
