USC Archaeology Team Digs for Buried Treasure
The group toured the area, the mission’s buildings and the museums to see what the ancient and modern uses of the mission were. Students found Native American (Chumash) beads that were used as currency for exchange, bones that represent ancient meals, abalone shell (both decorative and useful for tools), and more. The USC Archaeology Research Center will head to Catalina Island on another excavation field trip on Saturday, March 7.
