Archaeological Sites

Although the West Semitic Research Project specializes in photographing ancient inscriptions, our projects have often taken us to fascinating ruins and archaeological sites. Below are links to images of some of those places and excavations. Further information on archaeology and the University of Southern California can be found at the USC Archaeological Research Collection web site.

Petra The ancient Nabataean city built of living rock (Jordan).

Jerash The Roman ruins of the ancient city of Gerasa (modern Jerash, Jordan).

Qusayr `Amra A bathhouse complex with mosaics, near Amman, Jordan, dating from the 8th century CE.

St. Catherine's Monastery, Sinai Images of the traditional site of Mount Sinai, including St. Catherine's Monastery.
