Lorena Porras holds a BA in Communication from The University of Americas-Puebla in Mexico where she did a photographic analysis of the women's image in Mexican sports press media from 1932 to 1992. At the same time, she was the coordinator of the alumni magazine for the University. After working with television news media, she decided to focus in communications research.

Lorena's primary role on the MIPP team involves dealing with the research areas of the program: doing the content analysis of traffic reports in Los Angeles and the Bay Area. She is also designing a survey on driving behavior and creating an effective map of Los Angeles. Her research interests include the social effects of mass media and technologies, research methods, statistical analysis and cultural studies.
