The Media and Injury Prevention Program Conference

"Combining Traffic Safety with Good Radio"

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 1

California State Automobile Association 455 Hickey Blvd, Daly City, CA

The Media and Injury Prevention Program (MIPP) is funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the California Office of Traffic Safety, the Southern California Injury Research Prevention Center and Mitsubishi Motors.

The goal is to blend good commercial radio with injury sensitive traffic reporting practices. At the conference you will hear exciting information about how traffic reports affect drivers in California. In addition, many of the leaders in the Traffic Reporting Industry throughout the state will be in attendence. These include CHP, NHTSA, OTS, Traffic Report Production Companies, radio stations and advertisers.

Through a series of projects, including a detailed content analysis of radio traffic reports in Los Angeles and San Francisco, MIPP has uncovered many of the explicit as well as subtle messages that traffic reports convey to drivers. By testing drivers reactions to these messages in focus group testing, MIPP believes it is possible that both commercial and injury prevention goals can be met through subtle changes in traffic reporting. This belief is supported by many key leaders in traffic safety and traffic report production throughout the country who are enthusiastic supporters of MIPP.

In addition, a continental breakfast and full lunch will served and participants will be able to test out an amazing driving simulator that Battelle corporation will bring in support of the conference.

"MIPP is really on to something, we've worked closely with them and can't wait for the conference." Joe Chiramonte Metro Traffic SF

"I have been involved with MIPP since the beginning. It is great to know that we can make a real difference." Jim Thornton KNX traffic reporter

"Working to make the roads of California safer is never something I thought I would do, but MIPP showed me how I can do it every day." George Rask, KCBS traffic reporter

"We're behind MIPP 100%. They are really trying an innovative approach to get people to relax and be safe behind the wheel." Chief Ed Gomez Southern Division CHP

"I am always excited to see what people who listen to traffic reports think about them, MIPP has some answers." Lin Durling KGO Traffic reporter
