Day-to-Day at USC Child Care | Daily Learning Experiences

Daily Learning Experiences

Infant Program  •   Toddler Program  •   Preschool Program  •   School-Age Program

In each of the programs at USC Child Care (infant, toddler, preschool and school-age), we provide activities that meet each child's emotional, social, cognitive and physical needs. Developmentally appropriate and play-based learning experiences are emphasized. Daily learning experiences include a substantial amount of time outside. Activities conducted outdoors offer children exposure to new experiences and opportunities for exploration. Additionally, it promotes a healthy, active lifestyle.

While many aspects of our curriculum can be labeled as High Scope, Montessori, Creative Curriculum or Reggio Emilio, we know that having a "one size fits all" mentality will not truly meet the needs of all our children. By finding aspects of all of the above that work well together and blending the different skills and education of our teaching staff with the learning styles, experiences and ages of the children, we produce what is often referred to as a child-centered curriculum. While teachers plan a loosely structured curriculum, it is flexed changed, and mostly directed and initiated by the child. Teachers constantly pick up cues from the children and adapt their plans to answer questions and enhance discoveries that children make throughout their days.

Since children vary greatly in their development, prior experiences, abilities and interests, teachers use a variety of teaching strategies. Teachers are encouraged to attend workshops and seminars that expose them to different early childhood education methods. We allow teachers to use their creativity and expertise to integrate new and exciting elements of these approaches into their daily activity planning. Using a variety of methods allows teachers to better meet the needs of each individual child. Parents are always encouraged to talk with their child's teachers about the daily activities and how they enhance your child's development and learning.
