CASE STUDY ABSTRACT
Presenter: Peter Gottert
"The Vitamin A Promotion Projection: Radio and Nutrition in Niger"
Peter Gottert discussed the testing of various strategies for increasing the purchase, production, and consumption of vitamin A rich foods, targeting rural villages through locally organized radio dramas, theatrical performances, and counseling cards. The study identified four locally-available and affordable foods which were not commonly consumed because of modernization trends. Tapping into traditional story telling practices, the project asked local amateur actors to perform comedy skits about vitamin A-rich foods. They provided an interactive and confidence building vehicle for developing their own health education programs.
