"Leapfrogging from Tradition to Postmodernity: Communication and Development in Greater Central Asia"


Professor Majid Tehranian explored the challenges of global communication and democratization within Asia. He pointed out the challenges of leapfrogging technologically and culturally, from traditional societies into a postmodern age of global communication, pluralism, and skepticism.


Majid Tehranian is a Senior Fellow at Harvard University's Center for the Study of World Religions, a Professor of Communication at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and Director of the Pacifica Institute for Policy Studies. His research focuses on national development and information technologies with special attention to Hawaii, the Middle East, and Central Asia.
