"And the Nile Flows On: The Impact of a Serial Drama on Family Planning in Egypt"
Dr. Carol Underwood, a Research and Evaluation Officer with the Population Communication Service at The Johns Hopkins University, discussed the effect of a television sociodrama on family planning knowledge, awareness and practices in Egypt. The guiding assumption for this project was that the convergence of education and entertainment could legitimate social innovations, such as family planning, for the measurable impact on practices.
Dr. Carol Underwood received funding from UNICEF to examine the interrelationship of health and development under a revolutionary regime with emphasis on the health and health policy consequences of alternative development strategies. She has authored several manuscripts and presented papers concerning health and development in the Muslim world.
