Yo Hakomori has taught at California State University Polytechnic in Pomona, Meiji University and the University of Tokyo. He first opened Hakomori Architect in 1990, in Tokyo, Japan, after working at de Bretteville and Polyzoides, Koning Eizenberg Architecture, Franklin D. Israel Design Associates, and Arthur Erickson Architect, in Los Angeles. His work has been published in Architecture, Progressive Architecture and Architectural Record. His winning project in 1991 for the International Design Competition "Aids Life Center" was exhibited in San Francisco and Berkeley. More recently, he was a finalist for the Sendai Museum of Literature Competition in 1994. He practices in Los Angeles. He is co-coordiantor of the first year design studio and teaches the summer transfer studio.
