Fleishhacker, Sr. House Gothic Room Addition
San Francisco, California
Charles Greene labored for more than three years over
this proposed addition to the Fleishhackers’ San
Francisco residence. Designed to hold Mr. Fleishhacker’s
collection of European art, Charles Greene’s long
delays in producing the detailed drawings were too much
for his client, who eventually abandoned the project.
Cost may also have been a factor, since the Great Depression
had begun shortly after the design phase got underway.
One of the notable features of the design was the specification
for a Catalan-style vaulted ceiling of Guastavino tile.
