In 1993, USC founded the Institute for the Study of Computer Aided Design. USC offered architectural computing since 1965, but recently a critical mass in faculty and resources allowed to expand efforts aggressively. Students will be encouraged to be part of the development through research. The use of computers in architecture and building science encompasses far more than design and drafting. The goal of the computing emphasis in the Master of Building Science program is to allow in-depth study of particular aspect of computing as it relates to applications in architecture. Our research interests include animated simulation, smart building technology, design information systems, structural and environmental analysis, and related topics. The Institute plans to include multi-media and virtual reality as it expands. A very low student / faculty ratio allows study programs specifically suited to the interests of students and faculty.
