In 1993, USC founded the Institute for the Study of Computer Aided Design.
USC offered architectural computing since 1965, but recently a critical mass
in faculty and resources allowed to expand efforts aggressively. Students
will be encouraged to be part of the development through research. The use of
computers in architecture and building science encompasses far more than
design and drafting. The goal of the computing emphasis in the Master of
Building Science program is to allow in-depth study of particular aspect of
computing as it relates to applications in architecture. Our research
interests include animated simulation, smart building technology, design
information systems, structural and environmental analysis, and related
topics. The Institute plans to include multi-media and virtual reality as it
expands. A very low student / faculty ratio allows study programs
specifically suited to the interests of students and faculty.
