Introduction

Building Science at USC recognizes that exemplary architecture requires a creative response to natural forces, based on informed good judgement in the areas of architectural technology.

Structures must respond to earthquakes, wind and gravity, keeping occupants safe and generating spaces which refresh the soul. Buildings must respond to climate, energy and comfort issues, while reducing stress on the environment or regenerating what has been destroyed. Computer tools have opened entire new horizons in analyzing reality, as well as creating new virtual realities. When all these issues have been resolved in a synergistic manner we will have developed a lasting vision of Architecture. Students learn to research current topics in these areas, integrating knowledge and concepts from related technical fields and advancing the state of the art in Architecture and the Science of Building.
