The Natural System Landscape
The natural system garden teaches us not to be afraid of the decay, disintegration, and the apparent chaos of natural processes. All the marginal land of the urban centers can be reclaimed into these gardens. They contain groves of native plants which attract native wild life. They provide the drainage basins, connected and restored, which in turn support native fauna and flora thus providing local identity. These gardens are not exhibition stages for our artistic creations, but a way of integrating our lives into the natural communities, of cohabiting the terrestrial spaces which we currently dominate. The process of developing a true liking for our environment, rather than wishing we lived somewhere else, can only happen if we understand and experience it on a daily basis.
