The Social Landscape

These gardens are typically located on "vacant" land, and form an extension of our private homes into the public realm. They are not designed, but are clean, patrolled, and safe, not co-opted by memorials to the past history of a specific dominant culture.

Here we create non-threatening spaces in which to park cars or motorcycles for enjoyment and repair, to bring old furniture for repainting, for dyeing old clothes, and for performing all the various activities which are carried out in the garages of suburban homes. We design public sites where we are allowed to sell our belongings when we need to, spaces to listen and practice loud music, temporary movable skateboard arenas, an outdoor dance floor, a "hanging out" place, where kids ride their cycles, rough house or loiter without being looked down upon.
