JOIN THE BAND

Many people ask about joining the Trojan Marching Band -- and would like to know the main purpose of the band, and what requirements it takes to join. The band feels that all members of the university should have the opportunity to participate in marching with The Spirit of Troy, and offers the opportunity for all individuals enrolled to participate in one of the greatest collegiate marching band experiences in the country.

The first priority of the Trojan Band is to support USC’s athletic program. The close relationship that exists between the TMB and USC’s varsity teams is unique. Not only does the TMB perform at all home, away, and bowl football games, it also performs at most home games of the other varsity sports. From Men’s Basketball to Women’s Water Polo, the Spirit of Troy provides a home court advantage for all of our athletic teams.

A contingent of the band accompanies the football team to every away game. Included are the annual full band trips to the San Francisco Bay Area for match-ups with Stanford or Cal, and a biennial trip to South Bend to battle the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. Of course the TMB isn’t just about football. In fact, it is not uncommon to hear the strains of "Fight On" and "Tribute to Troy" at other major post-season tournaments around the country as well.

The Trojan Marching Band has earned the title "Hollywood’s Band" with its performances on both the small and silver screens. The TMB performed with OutKast at the 2004 Grammy Award's Show and on the Offspring's 2003 single "Hit That". The Trojan Marching Band’s movie credits include The Naked Gun, Two Minute Warning, The Last Boy Scout, The Little Rascals, Sgt. Bilko, and Forrest Gump. The Trojan Band has also appeared on some of the most watched shows on television, such as "Hollywood Squares," "The Best Damn Sports Show Period," "Joan River's Oscar Red Carpet," "America’s Funniest Home Videos," "The Wayne Brady Show," "MTV’s Rock and Jock," "In Living Color," "Donnie and Marie," "The Rosie O’Donnell Show," commercials for ABC and ESPN, the 2000 Academy Awards and the 2000 MDA Telethon hosted by Jerry Lewis, and EA Sports 2004 NCAA football video game. Every year the Trojan marching Band invites celebrity guests to perform in their half time shows. Recent guests include Dexter Holland from The Offspring, Mick Fleetwood, John Williams, Elmer Bernstein, KC and the Sunshine Band, George Clinton, and Pancho Sanchez. The Spirit of Troy also performs for various private and public functions throughout the year.
