Dr. F. H. (Hal) Ebetino, Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals, is the General Chairman of the meeting. Prof. Charles McKenna, Univ. of Southern California, is Program Co-Chair and Editor of the this ICPC Website. The Conference is typically attended by scientists from over 30 countries. Examples of areas and topics covered in previous ICPC sessions can be found here. The expected XIVth ICPC attendance is 500 to 600. The Cincinnati Section of the ACS will be the local hosts of this conference and are working hard with the committees to help make it a success. The meeting will present new phosphorus-related chemistry in a wide range of disciplines, including organic, inorganic, theoretical, biochemical, biomedicinal, agricultural, and others. Several exciting new topics have been introduced, notably Catalytic Antibodies/Abzymes and Materials/Polymers. As the program of ICPC14 continues to evolve (send your input to Hal or to Charles), information about its general areas, themes and presentations will be available on this page.
Dear Colleague,
On behalf of the Organizational Scientific Committees, I take great pleasure in inviting you to participate in the XIVth INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON PHOSPHORUS CHEMISTRY to be held July 12-17, 1998 in Cincinnati, USA.
As in previous meetings, all aspects of phosphorus chemistry will be represented. However, our aim will be to give special emphasis to biomedical and industrial applications. Please note in the preliminary program plan, we already have many committed speakers who are all top experts in their field. We hope this will set the stage for many more excellent contributed lectures and posters. To allow delegates maximum opportunity to stay up to date on colleagues attending, activities and new information, a world wide web site has been set up at: http://www.usc.edu/dept/chemistry/ICPC14/index.html, where we also anticipate access to the abstracts prior to the meeting.
The meetings and exhibits will all be held in one facility, the Hyatt Regency, which has an excellent capacity for multiple spacious meeting rooms and accommodations to house nearly all the delegates. I am particularly enthusiastic about having so many participants conveniently located to allow for maximum participation and opportunities to interact with colleagues during the entire week. Please note that we have negotiated attractive room rates ranging from $105 for a single person to $32.50 per person for those who plan for multiple occupancy rooms.
Cincinnati, the conference venue, is situated along the Ohio River in the midwestern region of the United States. The city offers a blend of culture, art, major sporting events, shopping, and is within 800 km of world class cities such as Atlanta, Chicago, New York, and Washington DC. It is an excellent site for traveling with families as well, with activities for children such as; a renowned zoo, Paramount's Kings Island Amusement Park, and tours of Mammoth Cave, one of the worlds largest.
Finally, I would like to thank all those early sponsors of the conference, many of whom have also committed to providing an exhibit. Given our excellent facility, we anticipate having the capacity to maintain an exhibition hall and posters for most of the week.
Subject: XIVth ICPC Update
Dear Colleague: This message is being sent to all scientists who have registered or expressed interest in the XIVth International Conference on Phosphorus Chemistry and have supplied the organizers with an e-mail address. If you know of additional colleagues who may have an interest in our meeting on July 12-17th, 1998 in Cincinnati, kindly forward to them.
As Chairman of the XIVth ICPC, I am writing to update you on developments with the conference, to clarify some details, and to remind you of key dates and information that may be helpful in planning for your participation. Feel free to respond directly with further questions.
1. We are quite excited about the prospects of a successful meeting, with already over 150 registrants at a very early time point. Nearly the same number of abstracts and/or titles for prospective presentations have also been received.
2. Please note: WE HAVE EXTENDED THE ABSTRACT DEADLINE TO MARCH 15th! At this time we will begin to select the final lecture slots and send a presenter list to our publishers, Gordon & Breach, shortly thereafter. The publisher will then contact each author and provide instructions for the proceedings manuscripts to be published in Phosphorus & Sulfur. I do not have the precise details for this year, but anticipate as in other years, each lecture will be offered a 4 page proceedings and each poster will be afforded a one page proceedings due at the start of the conference. This will expedite publication of the proceedings volume as quickly as possible.
We have reserved considerable space for poster presentations and plan to have half the posters on display for the first two days and the other half for Wednesday and Thursday. We will be able to accommodate all potential presenters with at least a poster. There are still a number of lecture slots open and we do not intend to finalize the program until after March 15. Later abstracts may still be accepted after this time especially for posters, so do not hesitate to contact us if you need more time.
3. We are a volunteer group of organizers. Please bear with us if some details gets overlooked and feel free to remind us anytime, if you haven't gotten an expected response on an issue: ebetino.fh@pg.com or libbin.vl@pg.com
4. Please check the web periodically for updates. If you need invitation letters, early acceptance letters or any other assistance do not hesitate to contact me.
5. Corrections on the circular.
a. The cost of a copy to the proceedings is included in the full registration fee. The cost of an extra copy is $50 and was mistakenly referred to as abstracts in the first printing of the second circular.
b. The Riverboat cruise is a dinner cruise. Register early, seating will be limited.
c. The Museum Center activity on Tuesday is a cocktail reception probably with some access to the displays.
d. Vicki Libbin is now the conference secretariat (513 622 2495, 513 622 1195 fax, libbin.vl@pg.com or icpc.im@pg.com).
e. If you need to express mail a package to us the following street address can be used:
FH Ebetino

Health Care Research Center
8700 Mason-Montgomery Road
Mason, Ohio 45040-8006
f. Hotel reservations must be made by June 19th, 1998 to insure rates and placement in the Hyatt Hotel. I am particularly excited that most participants will be staying in one place and in the same facility as the scientific sessions of the conference. This hotel is also centrally located downtown in Cincinnati and we have negotiated a particularly good rate. Please note if you share rooms the rate is outstanding, however, please contact the hotel to insure the number of beds etc. will meet your needs/preferences. Please be aware, that rooms will not be guaranteed for late arrival (after 6 pm) if a security deposit is not included with your accommodation reservation at the Hyatt
g. We encourage you to return your Activities Interest Form with your registration form. Your responses will help us to determine which activities will be offered.
h. Finally, please e-mail or submit with your registration your choice of subdiscipline for grouping your presentation and your top four disciplines of interest to help us in planning room attendance sizes.
I would like to thank again, the Cincinnati Section of the ACS, for sponsoring and organizing this year's ICPC, and the many organizations listed in the circular and web page for their financial support. We anticipate a significant exhibit this conference, so if any of your organizations would like to join in, space is still available. Contact Kathy Gibboney (gibboney.k@pg.com, 513 622 2289).
I would also like to thank you for expressing interest in this conference and will look forward to seeing you in Cincinnati.
Best Regards,
Frank H. Ebetino
