Chiara Paz received her bachelor’s degree
in Psychology with minors in Education
Studies and Applied Developmental Psychology from
the University of California, Los
Angeles. Before entering the Ph.D. program at USC,
Chiara served as the Credential
Counselor and Student Affairs Officer for the Teacher
Education Program at UCLA while completing her M.A.
in Higher Education & Organizational Change in
the same
institution. She is a research assistant at the center,
where she works with Dr. Tierney. Her interests largely
involve college access and its relationship to financial
aid and college affordability. She is also interested
in exploring the effects of student loans on the
college-going attitudes of underrepresented students.

Doug Burleson

Douglas Burleson received a BA in Literature with a focus on Creative
Writing and World Literature from The American University. He then
worked as a Housing Administrator at The American University dealing
primarily with graduate student housing. Doug returned to graduate
school at the University of Massachusetts Amherst where he received
a M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration. At UMass he served as
a special projects assistant to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
and Campus Life. His research interests include issues of access,
especially for low-income gay youth, factors affecting the college
choice process, specifically for first-generation students, and the
impact of technology across numerous areas of higher education. He
is currently working at the center under Dr. Tierney.

Jarrett Gupton is a research assistant in the Center
for Higher Education Policy Analysis and a Ph.D.
student in the Rossier School of Education with an
emphasis on higher education policy and administration.
He received his M.Ed. in Higher and Postsecondary
Education from the College of Education at Arizona
State University. He completed a double major in
philosophy and political science from Arizona State
University. Jarrett is the graduate student liaison
for the USC 125th Committee and a Fellow in the Center
for American Studies and Ethnicity. His research
interests include access, equity, and diversity,
specifically pertaining to access and trajectory
of women of color in the academy, and what roles
men of color have in creating and promoting a positive
campus climate for women of color. Within CHEPA,
Jarrett is working with Dr. Tierney on college access
issues regarding homelessness and college going.

Laurel Beesemyer
Laurel Beesemyer is a Provost Fellow working
with Dr. Adrianna Kezar in the center. She received
her B.A. at Swarthmore College with a double major
in English literature and history, an MSt. in Women’s
Studies and MSc. in Higher Education from Oxford University,
and an M.A. in Higher and Postsecondary Education from
Teachers College, Columbia University. Her current
research interests include the interactions between
strategy, leadership styles, organizational characteristics
and cultures; and decision-making processes in the
governance and change of higher education institutions.

Lisa Garcia completed a double major
in history and American literature and culture at
the University of California, Los Angeles [UCLA].
After graduating, Lisa worked in the office of Undergraduate
Admissions and Relations with Schools at UCLA as
an editor working on UCLA and University of California
printed and Web publications for prospective undergraduate
students. Her research interests include the study
of academic equity of minority students studying
at community colleges. She is also interested in
general issues of equity, access, and diversity,
specifically pertaining to first-generation college
students. Lisa has joined the center under Dr. Tierney.

Margaret Sallee
After receiving her BA in English and French from
UC Berkeley, Margaret Sallee spent two years working
in student affairs at UC Davis. After two years in
the field, she returned to education to pursue her
Master's in Higher Education and Student Affairs at
Ohio State University. She has transitioned once again
to become a doctoral student at USC studying urban
educational policy while serving as a research assistant
for Dr. Linda Serra Hagedorn. Margaret is interested
in issues of access and equity, on both the national
and international levels, and in particular, the experiences
of all women in the university environment.

Ronn Hallett completed his B.A. degree in communication
studies at the University of Nebraska. After spending two years in
AmeriCorps, he went on to earn his M.A. degree in special education
at The George Washington University. He served students with emotional
and behavioral disorders for 4 years in Washington, DC and San Diego.
His interests include exploring adequacy of educational resources,
structural reform of public schools and opportunities to add value
to education in urban areas. He is currently working at the center
under Dr. Tierney. |
