Major Professional Associations
American Association of Colleges and Universities (AACU): The Association of American Colleges and Universities is a national association devoted to advancing and strengthening undergraduate liberal education.
American Association of University Administrators (AAUA): AAUA seeks to promote excellence in the administration of higher education. It is primarily geared toward middle and upper level administrators.
American Association of University Professors (AAUP): AAUP remains the leading organization primarily dedicated to protecting the academic freedom of professors. Through AAUP, faculty determine the principles of our profession and the procedures by which to protect them. When the AAUP speaks, it is the voice of the profession.
American College Personnel Association (ACPA): ACPA has approximately 6,000 members representing all areas of student affairs. The association is structured into 16 focused commissions.
American Education Research Association (AERA): With over 20,000 members, AERA is the largest professional organization dedicated to educational research. Higher education is one of twelve divisions within the association.
Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE): Originally associated with AAHE, ASHE focuses exclusively on the study and improvement of higher education. Its 800 members include professors, researchers, administrators, policy analysts, and graduate students.
Comparative and International Education Society (CIES): CIES seeks to promote the study of comparative and international education in universities and to encourage research projects and cooperation with international educational agencies. Its members include professors, university administrators, and governmental workers in international education.
National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA): NASPA has approximately 6,000 members including students affairs administrators, faculty, and graduate students.
