    Scientific Program:

    The Conference will include (1) Keynote Lectures presented by world authorities in structural control and monitoring, (2) State-of-the-Art Reports prepared by well-known specialists in specific topics, and (3) Oral Sessions consisting of conventional oral presentation and discussion of papers.

    Social Program:

    The social program includes continental breakfast in the mornings, coffee breaks mid-morning and mid-afternoon, lunches on all three days, a reception for all registered participants and their guests on Tuesday 11 July (the first evening of the conference) adjacent to the UCSD School of Engineering, and the conference banquet (additional cost for students and guests) on Wednesday 12 July at the UCSD Faculty Club.


    Optional Technical and Social Events and Tours:

    There are many interesting and world-famous activities near the conference location in San Diego. Participants and their families may arrange individual visits to these local attractions, including the following: San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Birch Aquarium at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography, Old Town San Diego, Tijuana (be careful of visa requirements for entry into Mexico), and San Diego's Beaches (also see this link for more beach information).

    Additionally, two optional Technical Tours will be available; three planned optional Social Tours have been cancelled due to lack of interest:

    Technical Tour 1 UCSD Labs 10 July (afternoon) no cost

    An organized tour of selected University of California at San Diego laboratories on the day preceeding the conference (10 July). These will include the Powell Structural Research Laboratory and the Englekirk Structural Engineering Center (with a large ourdoor shake table and blast effects test facility).

    Technical Tour 2 SoCal Earthquake 14 July (all day) $100/person

    Southern California is a rich natural laboratory for earthquake research. We will visit by bus sections of the San Andreas Fault and other earthquake-related features in the Mojave Desert to the northeast of San Diego. There will be lectures along the way by local earthquake experts. The trip will take us to the famous Palm Springs Aerial Tramway that rises from the desert floor to the mountaintop almost 3km above sea level, where we will have an informal dinner and then return to San Diego.

    Social Tour 1 Disneyland

    10 July (all day) $100/person

    Cost includes entrance tickets to Disneyland and bus transportation between UCSD and Disneyland in Anaheim.

    Social Tour 2 Shopping
    CANCELLED!
    12 July (afternoon) $25/person

    Shopping at the Carlsbad Premium Outlet Mall. Bus transportation will be provided.

    Social Tour 3 Universal Studios
    CANCELLED!
    14 July (all day) $100/person

    Cost includes entrance tickets to Universal Studios and bus transportation between UCSD and Universal Studios in Los Angeles.
