In May 2004, Mike Markus was appointed as an assistant general manager of the Orange County Water District. With more than 28 years of experience, Mr. Markus is well known for his expertise in construction management, planning and water resource management.

As an Assistant General Manager for the Orange County Water District, Mr. Markus is responsible for overseeing the water production department and the construction, start-up and operation of the Groundwater Replenishment System. His primary focus at OCWD is the implementation of the $487 million Groundwater Replenishment System program, which when completed will be the largest indirect potable reuse project in the world.

Prior to his work with the Orange County Water District, Mr. Markus spent two years with John Carollo Engineers and eight years at Peter Kiewit Sons’ Co. His extensive experience at OCWD includes oversight of the capital projects program, which included constructing over 70 projects during a 14-year period. Projects included the Green Acres Treatment Facility, Green Acres Pipelines in Fountain Valley, Santa Ana, Costa Mesa and Newport Beach, two rubber dams across the Santa Ana River, pump stations at all major recharge basins, constructed wetlands behind Prado Dam and the 17th Street Desalter.

Mr. Markus’s extensive experience in construction management has enabled OCWD to build projects that has provided the consistent, reliable and high quality water that 2.3 million Orange County residents rely upon.
