We have an annual scholarship program that we would like to offer to the undergraduate Civil and Environmental students for the 2007-08 academic year and I understand that you can push this
application out to them electronically. Although the application states that the awards are a minimum of $500, they can be more than that, depending upon the quality of the application. Expenses for students at USC are very high, so I would think that any little bit would help....
Although the original application deadline was February 23rd, you will see that the deadline for current USC students has been extended to March 23rd. The application is not that difficult to complete, and should not take that much time. Please ask the students to forward their completed
application to me electronically at
lrapp@lakewoodcity.org by 5 pm on Friday March 23rd. The applications will be reviewed by the screening committee, and initial selection will be made by April 20th, after which you will be informed which students, if any, have been selected. The students will be notified by letter by May 18th. If any of the students have any questions, you may refer them to me at this email address (ask them to refer to APWA Scholarship in the title of the email) or call me at 562-866-9771, Ext. 2500.
I hope that you will be able to encourage some of the students to apply for this scholarship. APWA has a responsibility to help expand our profession and to encourage young people to consider our field. Students at other schools, such as Cal Poly Pomona and SLO, have been the beneficiaries of this program, and as a Alum of USC, I would like to see some of our students get the chance at this benefit, too.
Thank you for your assistance!
