Hi Guys: Due to an unavoidable committment, I was to report late for the game. Ashwin as acting captain won the toss and invited Mr. Wilson and company to bat. The 2nd ball of the 2nd over saw Mervyn Fernando clean bowling Mr. Wilson's son. In the 3rd over Arvin Varma made new batsman Blake flash at a ball outside the off-stump and Dr. Lareef Idroos took a test class diving catch. Caribbean II 8/2. Raj Sundararaman held a well judged catch off Swami and Arvin Varma had a brilliant run out to have the opposition reeling at 50/4. I walked in with the score at 59/4 in the 14th over and Wellington of Caribbean II opened up. At the 17th over (water break) they were 81/4. In the 18th over Aravindan induced Wellington to hit in the air towards the deep extra cover/wide mid-off region. I was at deep extra cover and covered quite a lot of ground in lunging and holding on to what I consider a rather difficult catch. In the very next ball Ashwin Rao threw the ball in a flash to have the new batsman at the non-striker's end run out via a direct hit! Ashwin then held on to an easy catch to have Caribbean II at 87/7. Dr. Lareef Idroos and Aravinthan Wijayachandran bowled in tandem unchanged. Dr. Lareef wrapped up the tail with some very intelligent bowling. He had excellent figures of 3 for 26 off 5.5 overs. Caribbean II - 118 all out. Dean and Atul put on 20 runs for the 1st wicket before Dean was out caught behind for 7. Atul who had quite a number of lives, was eventually out for 16. >From 29/2, Aswhin Rao (57 not out) and Dr. Lareef Idroos (34 not out) put together 90 runs to see Colts through by 8 wickets. Ashwin, dropped once early in the innings made the West Indians pay with a focussed 57 not out which had 4 fours and 1 six. Dr. Lareef Idroos gave an exhibition of some calm and uninhibited stroke play to remain not out on 34 inclusive of 6 fours! A great catch, 3 wickets and a lesson in batting; there was no better way for Dr. Lareef Idroos to celebrate his return to competitive cricket. Overall, after our poor performance against Pacifica, Colts C.C. fielding showed much improvement, and that indeed was the key to this handsome victory. Thanks. Ranesh Peiris
