Hi guys: It seems to me that the Colts love setting themselves some tough targets/goals; even more they seem to thrive on beating the odds! Well.. although I could live without the tough target stuff, I'm really proud of our team's thirst for victory even in the jaws of defeat. The last two games portrayed the resillience of Colts C.C. Individual performances are apparent in every game, and amazingly, different members have revved it up when necessary. In the last game it was Prasanna, Arvin Varma, Dean & Venu. The rest of the team gave 110%! Everyone did their bit... Atul with a patient knock in realizing 27 runs for the 1st wicket & the prized scalp of Imran (stumped by Ashwin); Ashwin with an amazing day behind the stumps - a stellar performance; Arvin Varma with some sustained & accurate pace bowling 2 for 8 in 8 overs with 3 maidens; Venu with his pressure relieving 18 runs studded with one 6 & 2 four's; Raj with some patient batting - lending respectability to our total; Dr. Lareef with his deceiving deliveries - taking 3 for 28; Ryan with his immaculate fielding and subtle pressure on the absolutely clueless "pressured" SCCA umpire - Chandra Roy; Dean Jayasinghe with some sensible batting & inspired fielding - was great to have him back; Prasanna - what a find! ...an excellent fresher's knock of 24 not out when Colts were in dire straits; and last but not least Mervyn - who played with an injury, he took 3 wickets for 19 and was involved in a last wicket partnership of 12 runs. An excellent team effort! Well done guys! Colts C.C.: 135 all out (Prasanna Gokhale 24 n.o., Venu Javarappa 18, Dean Jayasinghe 15, Raj Sundararaman 12, Atul Raj 12) Pioneer: 107 all out (Mervyn Fernando 3/19; Dr. Lareef Idroos 3/28; Arvin Varma 2/8; Atul Raj 1/17; Ranesh Peiris 1/18) I have to make special mention of Swaminathan Krishnan who was 12th man for this game. It was good to have his support & for the first time I had nothing to correct in the score book - an excellent job by Swami. This is definitely not an implied negative comment on Mumta - who without any experience has helped us out tremendously. Regards, Ranesh Peiris
