Collaborations across institutions worldwide as well as many fields of science, including geology, biology, chemistry, paleontology, molecular genetics, and genomics.

geophysics
Combinestraditional geophysical disciplines such as seismology , geodynamics , and paleomagnetism with a modern "complex systems" approach to problems.

tectonics & petrology
Aims to decipher the kinematics of deformation in zones of distributed deformation along plate boundaries.

extends beyond classrooms and labs. we offer many funded opportunities for undergraduates to participate in research focused field work with our faculty.

the graduate program
emphasizes both educational and research programs and views these efforts as complementary. Small student to faculty ratio allows for personal mentorships. There are many funded research opportunities with our affiliated research centers.
