Current research focuses on avian dinosaurs from the Cretaceous. While a thesis project is not yet defined, it will focus on furthering the understanding of enantiornithine Mesozoic birds. Recent work has included the description of a new fossil enantiornithine bird from Gansu Province in China, and currently a project on a new species of ornithurine bird from Liaoning Province is underway.

Past research includes a paleomagnetics study of Dabaishan in Inner Mongolia, China, and work on a new Chinese species of Sthenictis , North America extinct genus of mustelid, with Xiaoming Wang.
