Research focuses on the evolution of the Earth’s mantle and lithospheric structure over time, including the dynamics of oceanic and continental regions, and understanding the interactions between mantle convection and geologically observed deformation processes on the surface. Such research has to address a wide range of time scales (interseismic versus geologic) and length scales (regional versus global), and greatly benefits from an interdisciplinary approach. We mostly use analytical, numerical, and laboratory modeling to learn more about these problems. Our models are constrained by data from a variety of disciplines, including seismology, geology, geodesy, geochemistry, and mineralogy.
