CENTER FOR MULTILINGUAL MULTICULTURAL RESEARCH
The Center for Multilingual, Multicultural Research is proud to introduce LIVE JAVA CHAT.
All you have to do to use the system is click on the "Chat!" button below. Depending on the speed of your connection and computer the Java chat window should come up in just a few moments (30 seconds to 3 minutes) so please be patient. You must be using a web browser such as Netscape 3.0 or above or Internet Explorer Version 3 and above. Once you are connected to the chat system you will be able to enter chat rooms and chat to other CMMR visitors from across the country or from anywhere around the world directly from your own computer system. Look for the "Multilingual, Multicultural Ed. Chat" room.
How the LIVE JAVA CHAT system works.
When you click the button below a LIVE JAVA CHAT applet window will be automatically downloaded to your computer. When the applet window appears you enter a nickname for yourself where it says "Your Name," then you can optionally enter a profile for yourself where it says "Profile." You might enter something like: graduate student at USC or master teacher willing to answer your questions, etc.
A frame within the applet will provide you with a list of different chat rooms. Our room is entitled, "Multilingual, Multicultural Ed. Chat." Many of these rooms may not be relevant to our discussions. We share the system with other web sites. The CMMR cannot be responsible for the content or discussions in these rooms so please exercise caution. You may click on any of the room names to see how many users are in that room. To join the chat within a specific room click on the button labeled "Enter Room." Once you enter a chat room you will be able to chat with others who have also entered. You can enter as many rooms as you like. Have fun, discuss issues, or contact an old friend and catch up. . . but please remember that CMMR visitors are made up of people from various age groups and backgrounds, therefore no offensive language or off-color discussions in public rooms should be used.
The system supports private chats to accommodate private discussions as well. To go private simply double click on a person's name. To exit a chat room simply close the chat window by clicking the appropriate button in the upper corner of the applet window.
You can use the LIVE JAVA CHAT system at any time during the day. You may want to set up meeting times so you will be able to "find" or "chat" with each other. The CMMR will also be hosting various LIVE discussions with students and experts on selected issues of education, technology and other topics of interest. Check our "Calendar of Events" to look for upcoming live-chat discussions. Please use the system to its fullest. Use it to share your needs and successes, to broaden your understanding of issues and differing points of view, and to help enlighten others of your experience, knowledge and scholarship. . . or just to say hello to each other. Please take a moment to e-mail us your feedback.
