The Certificate in the Education of Twice Exceptional Students is designed for the working professional who wants to develop an expertise in understanding this unique population of students and learn skills to provide appropriate academic, social and emotional support. This four module blended program will grapple with the questions, "How can we meet the needs of the Twice Exceptional Student?" "Who are Twice Exceptional Students, and what are their academic, social and emotional needs?" "How do educators identify students' gifts and design opportunities to nurture these gifts both within and outside of the curriculum?"
The Certificate in the Education of Twice Exceptional Students consists of four interrelated modules or units of study.
- Module 1: The Nature & Needs of Twice Exceptional Children focuses on characteristics and identification of 2E students, as well as cooperative planning.
- Module 2: Giftedness & Talent Development for the 2E Student explores the impact of talent development on the cognitive, social and emotional lives of twice exceptional students.
- Module 3: Instructional Support & Accommodations describes the various types of support systems that may be required to help 2E students, and focuses on the development of executive functioning and self regulation strategies.
- Module 4: Developing the 2E IEP introduces methods of collaboration and advocacy in the creation of a comprehensive plan for twice exceptional students.
Each module or unit of study is designed to present the classroom teacher, school administrator or educational psychologist with elements to be considered in the design of a curriculum that is appropriately responsive to the needs, interests, and abilities of the 2E student. The program is run cohort style, and all four modules must be completed in order to earn the certificate.
