What is RSS?
RSS is an web coding format (xml) designed for sharing
web content like news headlines or any announcements
pertaining to our school. An RSS service (also known
as an RSS channel) consists of a list of items, each
of which contains a headline, description, and a
link to a web page. For Rossier School of Education
RSS service, the full content, such as a full-text
article, is made available on RSOE and
can be accessed by the link in the RSS service. Once
you subscribe to a feed, new items will automatically
download to your feed reader - you do not need to
check the site to look for new information.
How do I use RSS?
A program known as a feed reader or aggregator can
check a list of feeds on behalf of a user and display
any updated articles that it finds.
To use RSS, you will need a special RSS reader or aggregator
that will allow you to collect and display RSS service.
RSS readers allow you to view the service you select
all together in the same place and, by automatically
retrieving updates, stay current with new content soon
after it is published.
There are many different free readers available. Most
readers are applications that you download and install.
Some others are web-based service you sign-up for that
work inside your browser. Listed below are some popular
options:
- Newsgator (web
based)
