Elizabeth Butler is a research associate with the Center on Educational Governance. She began the doctoral program in education at the University of Southern California in the fall of 2007 and was awarded a Provost fellowship. Elizabeth earned her bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of California, San Diego and master's of education degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. Elizabeth worked as a research assistant in the sociology department at UCSD and spent 15 years in the classroom, teaching mathematics and AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) at a conversion charter high school in Los Angeles. Her research interests include education reform and closing the achievement gap for middle class African American students.
