Richard S. Brown

Richard S. Brown is an Assistant Professor
in the USC Rossier School of Education. Prior to joining
USC, he served as an Assistant Professor of Education
and Director of the Center for Research in Educational
Assessment and Measurement in the Department of Education,
University of California, Irvine. Dr. Brown teaches
courses in educational measurement and research methodology.
Dr. Brown has a M.B.A. from the University of California,
Irvine (1989) and Ph.D. in Advanced Quantitative Methods
from the University of California, Los Angeles (1999).
Previously, Dr. Brown worked as Senior Researcher at
the National Center for Research on Evaluation, Standards,
and Student Testing (CRESST) at UCLA. Part of his responsibilities
at CRESST were to provide technical expertise on two
large-scale public school assessment initiatives, specifically
in the areas of test development, measurement, and
performance standard setting. He also conducted research
on developing an indicator system for California public
schools and exploring graphical representations of
data to evaluate school performance.
In addition, Dr. Brown frequently works with the California
Department of Education, serving as a member of several
technical advisory committees. In this capacity, Dr.
Brown engages in collegial discussions and provides
feedback and advice to the CDE on technical issues,
particularly in the areas of testing and assessment
in the California public school system.
