Weekly Workshops

Each week, students can plan part of their afternoon schedule by choosing from special interest workshops which will focus on specific English skill areas or cultural topics. These workshops are an informal way for students to supplement their coursework. Workshops may include:

Conversation Partners – Small groups speak with native English speaking USC students
Writing Tutorial – One-on-one assistance from an Academy faculty member with papers, assignments, or college entrance essays
American Culture Topics – Faculty, staff and USC students discuss interesting topics to familiarize students with various aspects of American culture
Pronunciation Workshop – Specially designed for small groups of higher level students to work on accent reduction and pronunciation techniques
American Politics/American History -Students can learn more about their host country through these informative and interactive sessions with experts from these fields
Popular TV/Films – Watch the latest television or films and discuss plot, theme and effects with other students
