Anthropology is the study of humankind in a cross-cultural, social science perspective. At USC, Anthropology consists of Cultural Anthropology, and its subfields, with a small program in Biological Anthropology. The central notions of anthropology, the importance of culture in shaping human behavior and the relativity of culture, have become generally accepted premises within Western society. However, the analysis and understanding of cultural differences-whether in human communities or among other primates, remains the central and unique goal of anthropology.
