Our Mission

The NASA Far West RTTC's mission is to produce effective transfers of commercially viable technology from the federal labs to U.S. industry, and finally to the marketplace. The outcome of these efforts is improved economic development and prosperity across the region, and a global competitive advantage for U.S. companies.

Information, contacts and expertise at your fingertips

One of six NASA-sponsored technology transfer centers across the country, the Far West Regional Technology Transfer Center (Far West RTTC) is an Engineering Research Center within the School of Engineering at the University of Southern California. It is also an integral part of the NASA Commercial Technology Network and its immense resources.

Operating its unique Remote Information Search Service (RISS) the Far West RTTC begins by generating information from hundreds of federal, state and local databases. Its professional staff then works with you to identify opportunities at specific federal labs, the expertise and key scientists in each situation, and other resources useful to your project.

Together with this information, its vast network of contacts, and its close relationship with the federal labs, the Far West RTTC sets up and facilitates the contacts and actions you need to transfer federal technology to your company, from beginning to end.

Economic growth and a global competitive advantage

The federal lab system generates over $70 billion worth of R&D each year. It has over 100,000 researchers and 700 lab facilities, more than 68 of which are in the western U.S. The Far West RTTC's professional staff uses this immense resource to help you:

  • Reduce costly duplication of R&D expenses in research fields already addressed,
  • Retain experts who can assist you to increase the productivity and efficiency of your work processes,
  • Deploy specialized scientists to help you create new products and applications, and new markets.
All this adds up to results. Increased economic development in your region. Better products and services. New markets and a first-class competitive advantage. Contact us today, either by e-mail (nasa@usc.edu) or by phone at 213 743.2353, to learn how the NASA Far West RTTC can help your company.
