Digital Days at Santa Barbara International Film Festival
On Saturday, March 2 the Far West RTTC presented
“NASA, Bringing Digital Technology Back To Earth” at the 17th Santa Barbara
International Film Festival held in Santa Barbara, California.
As with previous presentations at film festivals, the Far West RTTC used
this opportunity to highlight several advanced NASA technologies and their applications for low cost
production and post production. Don Miskowich, Far West RTTC's resident expert on film production,
delivered the presentation to an audience of about 75 people. Far West RTTC's goal in participating in these
events is to create visibility for NASA and promote new business opportunities based on NASA-sponsored
technologies in a forum focused tightly on a target audience of independent video, film and webcasting
producers and entrepreneurs.
Four NASA technologies were highlighted at the Santa Barbara festival:
- Image Data Compression Having Minimal Perceptual Error -
DCTune (NASA Ames)
-
Digital Video Quality - DVQ (NASA Ames)
-
PERILOG (NASA Ames)
Video Image Stabilization and Registration
- VISAR (NASA Marshall)
This year's festival ran for five days, from Feb. 27 to March 3.
It was shortened from the traditional eleven days to five because of the events of Sept. 11. The festival
offered screenings of mainstream and alternative features, documentaries and short films along with a
variety of special events, tributes, seminars, workshops, prizes and awards.
