* Elisa Yadao, Director, Director, Polynesian Voyaging Society

Three pioneers in NASA imaging technology development, HD digital film production, and Polynesian voyaging will be conducting this unique workshop designed for independent video, film and webcasting producers, students & entrepreneurs. Learn about how new types of digital image processing and film shooting techniques can promote cultural awareness and while also providing new business opportunities.

The main body of the workshop will provide a broad exploration of how digital technologies allow filmmakers to capture and manipulate images during production and post-production processes. Topics will include: how the digital video processing software tools work, types of pitfalls typically encountered, and levels of training required for advanced digital filmmaking. Participants will learn how the speaker uses ordinary low cost PC tools (such as Photoshop, Premier, After Effects, Film FX, Twixtor & Retimer) to image process standard definition video and produce high definition material for theatrical presentation.

Parts of the raw footage from the Polynesian voyages will be used to illustrate techniques for shooting footage with inexpensive DV cameras through the process. After the technical portion of the workshop, the full 35mm version of the documentary "Hokule,a: A Guiding Light will be screened for the first time in Hawaii, with an introduction by Elisa Yadao, Executive Director of the Polynesian Voyaging Society.

Don Miskowich, a Clio winner, has worked in film and computer animation for 30 years, helped produce numerous film and TV projects (including feature films Star Trek, Endangered Species, and Brainscan), and has lectured widely on computer animation and digital image processing. As the VP of Business Development for Sony Pictures Entertainment High Definition Center, he introduced High Definition Digital technology for shooting and posting feature films to independent film producers. He's widely recognized as an expert on digital post production techniques, and currently consults on digital feature film production and computer- based post production as owner of Digital Motion Pictures.
