Larry Luther created an object oriented database which allows sophisticated linkage to technology partners to enable the showcasing of technology in a repository website maintained by the USC ETTC.

Larry Luther has been developing image compression and processing software at Dolby Laboratories in Burbank, CA.

Mr. Luther recently was Senior Member of Engineering at DemoGraFX, Inc of Marina del Rey, a leading developer of specialized digital video signal processing and image coding technology. Mr. Luther was responsible for providing expertise in the area of image compression, filtering, format conversion, and image quality analysis. He was an integral part of the team at DemoGraFX, Inc. for a total of 6 years on two different occasions. During his tenure, he developed a 3-dimensional sculpting program for Modacad for use in the Fashion and Merchandising Industry as well as PHIGS (a Graphics Library), a project for Digital Equipment Corporation.

From 1997 to 2001, prior to rejoining the Engineering team at DemoGraFX, Inc., Mr. Luther worked at Modern Cartoons, a Venice, CA based company, where he was Director of Software Development. Amongst his achievements, Mr. Luther created “Storyboard”, a program to manage the post- production process and which was used very effectively on the multi-year televised children’s show “Jay Jay the Jet Plane”. He also developed a specialized program, “Sculpt”, wherein the artist sculpted characters while viewing them in 3D.

From 1992 to 1996, Mr. Luther was a member of the R&D Technical Staff at Walt Disney Imagineering in Glendale, California. He was responsible for developing file format conversion programs ultimately used for the Aladdin Virtual Reality ride at Disneyland Amusement Parks. He also developed API for real-time hardware capable of displaying multiple video streams for the “TV of the Future” simulator.

Mr. Luther was Director of Research and Technology at Digital Productions (DP) from 1982 to 1985 where he implemented “Fifth” an interpretive front end to the Cray renderer which controlled the rendering and all special effects. He also developed motion choreography software that was used for nearly all productions and post-production projects including the movie “The Last Starfighter” which in the same year received an Academy Award for Technical Excellence.

Other career highlights include 3 years with Hughes Aircraft of Culver City where he created software for modeling satellite image processing algorithms as a Member of Technical Staff. He also created a dome projection algorithm for the F18 flight simulator.

Mr. Luther was Software Developer for Morganelli-Heumann and Associates where he developed a 2-Dimensional CAD packages for office layout and “DATMAN”, a space planning inventory program.

Mr. Luther holds his B.A. in Physics from University of California at Irvine.
