Zeller is Manager of Knowledge Resources at the NASA Far West Regional
Technology Transfer Center located within the School of Engineering
Technology Transfer Center at the University of Southern California.
Mr. Zeller has a background in electronic information retrieval
and is an expert in a wide range of government-sponsored and privately
produced online databases and electronic resources. Under NASA's
sponsorship, he has used such resources extensively to help customers
gather, analyze and assess information concerning commercial viability
and market opportunities across a broad spectrum of technologies.
Mr. Zeller has over eighteen years experience as a frequent user
of online databases, such as the NASA Scientific and Technical Information
database, and host systems, such as NASA/RECON and RECONplus, Dialog,
DataStar, Questel-Orbit, Knowledge Express Data Services, and STN.
Mr. Zeller pioneered the use of the Remote Interactive Search System
(RISS), a service that allows a client to participate actively,
along with an expert search specialist, in an online information
search session from a remote location via modem link. He also has
experience with several CD-ROM information retrieval tools. In addition,
Mr. Zeller has been an Internet user for over seventeen years and
uses the World Wide Web frequently for gathering information. He
has specific information retrieval expertise in the areas of NASA
technology available for commercialization, aerospace, engineering,
materials science, patents, biomedicine and business/market/industry
research.
Mr. Zeller is the author or co-author of several published papers
concerning information resources and their use in support of technology
transfer and commercialization. He has also made presentations on
this subject at numerous conferences and workshops, including the
1999 Los Angeles Times Small Business Strategies Conference, 1998
California Association for Local Economic Development finance conference,
1995 Special Libraries Association annual convention and exhibition
and 1995 National Association of Management and Technical Assistance
Centers annual conference. As a recognized authority on the Small
Business Innovation Research Program he has participated as a speaker
at several national SBIR conferences and at numerous training sessions
sponsored by the Federal Laboratory Consortium.
Mr. Zeller holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in French from Colby
College and a Masters in Library Science degree from UCLA. He is
a member of the Southern California Online Users Group.
