Past Conferences

Biomarker Network Meeting (PAA New Orleans 2008)

Meeting on Biomarkers in Surveys (March 29, 2006)
The Center hosted representatives of 11 international data collection efforts in order to discuss the most useful biomarkers that can be collected in large surveys, issues of comparability, and to address the best ways to collect and analyze biological samples.

Meeting on Biomarkers in Surveys (June 17-18, 2005)
The Center hosted representatives of 4 international data collection efforts in order to discuss the most useful biomarkers that can be collected in large surveys, and to address the best ways to collect and analyze biological samples.

Symposium on Organisms with Slow Aging II (January 17-18, 2003)
The USC/UCLA Center hosted a 2 day meeting at the Andrus Gerontology Center. Sosa critically examined emerging evidence that some multi-cellular organisms have evolved very slow rates of aging with anti-aging mechanisms that are pertinent to human aging processes. Seventy-five scientists representing 5 countries presented their research on aging in several species of animals, plants, and humans.

NIA Demography Centers Health Disparities Workshop (May 22-24, 2001)
The Center hosted representatives of all 10 NIA supported Demography of Aging research centers for a 3 day workshop to share current understanding on health disparities between populations, and to set an agenda for future research on the topic.

Symposium on Organisms with Slow Aging (September 2000)
The USC/UCLA Center hosted a 2 day meeting at the Andrus Gerontology Center. Sosa critically examined emerging evidence that some multi-cellular organisms have evolved very slow rates of aging with anti-aging mechanisms that are pertinent to human aging processes. Seventy-five scientists representing 5 countries presented their research on aging in several species of animals, plants, and humans.

Workshop on Cognition and Aging (April 2000)
Center researchers held a one day workshop in April 2000 on the issue of the relationship between cognition and aging based on two center-supported pilot projects. The group included 13 researchers from a number of disciplines.

The Reves International Network on Health Expectancy and the Disability Process (March 20 - 22, 2000)
The USC/UCLA Center held the 13th meeting of the International Network on Active Life Expectancy and the Disability Process in March 2000 at the Andrus Gerontology Center. This was a major event which included about 75 people from countries presenting 48 papers on summary measures of health, mortality, morbidity and the disability process. This conference was supported by an NIA grant.
