Ms. Sheets is completing her doctoral degree with the Leonard Davis School of Gerontology, at the University of Southern California. Currently she is Co-Principal Investigator on two National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) funded policy projects affiliated with Rancho Los Amigos Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Aging with Disability. These projects are investigating policies affecting access to assistive technologies by persons aging with and into disability.

She is a registered nurse with more than fifteen years of clinical experience. In 1992 she was awarded an American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) Policy Intern Fellowship which she served with the United States Senate Subcommittee on Aging. She has served as a peer reviewer of proposals for the Administration on Aging several times, was a elite issues expert for the White House Conference on Aging (WHCOA), and serves on the Board of Directors for the American Society on Aging. She is chair-elect for the Student Organization of the Gerontological Society of America, and is an active member of the Society for Disability Studies and the American Public Health Association. Her areas of special expertise include health behaviors, assistive technology, and both disability and health policy. She has published several articles and presented at numerous professional meetings.
