
Dr. Phoebe Liebig is an Associate Professor of Gerontology and Public
Administration at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
She was the first recipient of the Prestigious Hanson Family Trust Professorship
from 1990-1993, the first endowed assistant professorship in gerontology
in the nation. She has been a member of the Research Institute of the Andrus
Center for more than 10 years and the Center staff for more than 20 years.
In addition to her research, Dr. Liebig teaches undergraduate, masters,
and doctoral courses. She has developed new course on corporate policies
and aging and federalism and aging policy. In 1995, Dr. Liebig was awarded
the Andrus Center Associates Excellence in Teaching Award
Dr. Liebig is the author of numerous articles and book chapters on housing
and long-term care issues, with a focus on federalism, intergovernmental
relations and state-level policy. She is the co-editor of two books, California
Policy Choices for Long-Term Care and Housing Frail Elders: International
Policies, Perspectives and Prospects . She is planning the release of a
new book she is co-editing in 1997, with the working title, Employment and
Retirement: Policy Issues for the 21st Century. Dr. Liebig serves on the
editorial boards of the Journal of Aging & Social Policy, the Western
Governmental Reviewer, and Contemporary Gerontology. She has also served
as a review for The Gerontologist, Publius: The Journal of Federalism and
Journal of Policy Analysis and Management.
She is currently an Associate of the federally funded national Policy and
Resource Center on Long-Term Care and Housing. Dr. Liebig is also the principal
investigator of two grants dealing with policy issues related to assistive
technology and aging with a disability that are affiliated with the Rehabilitation
Research and Training Center (RRTC) on Aging with Disability at Rancho Los
Amigos Medical Center, in Downey CA.
She holds a Master of Arts degree in political science from the University
of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) and a Ph.D. in public administration
from the University of Southern California (USC).
